CELTIC’s pre-season friendly against Banik Ostrava had to be stopped due to the amount of toilet paper thrown onto the pitch by home fans.

The Hoops were in their third summer outing after a 7-0 win over minnows Wiener Viktoria and a 3-3 draw with Rapid Vienna.

Goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley gave them a 2-1 lead at the time after Ostrava took the lead through Eldar Sehic.

But as the first half neared its conclusion, the referee halted the proceedings in the 37th minute after the Czech team’s supporters threw so much bog and tape onto the pitch that he was interfering.

It is not known why the fans did it. Banik Ostrava is celebrating its centenary this year and there was a tifo before the game, hence the amount of tickers.

The likes of Joe Hart and Josip Juranovic were among those picking up most of the debris as players from both sides had to mingle and help alongside the staff.

Celtic target Edouard Michut once emulated Kylian Mbappe's PSG record

It’s not the first time we’ve seen strange objects thrown onto the pitch during a game with Celtic.

During a game against Dundee at Dens Park last season, Celtic supporters threw tennis balls onto the pitch in protest at the potential appointment of former chief constable Bernard Higgins to a managerial post at the club Parkhead.

Later in the season, Rangers fans adopted similar tactics by throwing toilets on the pitch as they raged over the decision to play Celtic in the mid-season Sydney Super Cup, which was effectively considered a comeback tour for Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou.

Meanwhile, PSG wonderkid Edouard Michut is the latest name to be linked with a switch to Scottish football.

Reports emerged earlier that Celtic are interested in the PSG starlet and a £2million bid will be launched within weeks.

Michut has been dubbed ‘the new Marco Verratti’ in his homeland and has already caught the eye of Euro giants Barcelona, Man City and Juventus.

He made an impact in his six outings last season by becoming the youngest player to register an assist for Les Parisiens since Kylian Mbappe – surpassing his record by just 13 days.
